Losi 8, steering ackerman and bump steer questions
#2
Bump steer up gives you a little more steering in the center of the turn. Bump steer down is just a smoother, more constant "arc" in the curve.
Ackerman:
Long is what most people run. It's much smoother and doesn't make the car as twitch.
Short ackerman makes the front end very sensitive to wheel input but will also give you quicker initial turn in.
Personally, I like the long ack on buggy and the short ack on truck.

Running the bump steer ball down will give you smoother steering mid corner (less bump-steer), running the ball up will give you more bump-steer mid corner (steering will seem more twitchy). The short ackerman plate will increase steering response right off center (more sensitive) and has more steering mid turn. The long ackerman plate is less sensitive off center and is more forgiving, you are less likely to get too "happy" with you're steering.
