how hot should a motor run
#2
What engine is it? Different manufacturers and different model engines have different recommended engine temps but as a general anything over 300 is really bad and under 275 is usually a good guess

Oh sure if there is smoke you still got the lube you need in the engine but over 300 you start hurting the integrity of the engine parts and you'll cook your engine anyways.

If the engine block is glowing......... It's too hot
Bengsch85 is right, but every engine is a little different. I've got a TRX 2.5 that always runs close to 300 and loves it. Till it goes BANG!!

Everyones answer is right. All engines are different but try not to exceed 275. Tune for smoke trail and performance not temps but always check to make sure it's not too hot. There is a very narrow gap between a perfect tune and too hot or to cold. Cold will hurt your engine just as fast as heat will so make sure you are in that golden range of 200-250 after a good 1/2 tank of running in normal conditions. I know RB engines like to run a little hotter than others and the trinity ex techs run a little colder. Of course if I could tune as well as I can type my life would be allot simpler

Don't get caught up with temps. I always tell people the best thing that ever happened to me was my temp gauge quit working. Tune for performance and smoke, then verify that your temps are ok. You can have smoke and performance and be too hot so if that happens just richen it up a little, or make sure that you have good airflow to the head.

Depends on alot of things for one what is it in monster truck vs buggy. The tune pipe has alot to do with temp airflow over the engine.
I had picco 26 in savage that ran 300 all the time. Put that same engine in truggy it was very rich had to lean everything alot and temp was 250. Then let my brother use it in a buggy had to lean it some more same temp.

what are most life spans for a nitro motor.
my first monster truck used a bunch of glow plugs and seized at four gallons.
now my savage x ss is on it's third glow plug and at least ten gallons of 20 %.
i run it 200 - 220 but the specs say up to 275 is ok

Heat really doesn't hurt these engines...lack of lubrication does..... you can run 300 if the engine is well lubricated, not that it really happens that way.....but worry more about having a good tune and forget about your silly temp guns !
