Default Quick Tire Question

Is it true that by boiling my rims the tires will come off easier? I was just told this by my neighbor but want to ask before i destroy them. Thanks

Yes... or baking them in the oven... or putting them in a sealed container with acetone (they don't have to be in the liquid, just the fumes will do the trick if you leave them in there long enough.)

Default TIRE REMOVAL

My experience with boiling tires sucked and it stinks up the house. Use acetone

I've boiled them and worked great. About 15 minutes per tire. I used a pair of Ov Gloves and pulled them right off. Didn't notice a smell. Baking will smell up the house. Haven't tried the Acetone, but I've heard it can ruin the foams. ?

As I understand it, you don't actually have to submerge the tires in acetone. If you suspend them above some acetone in a sealed jar, the fumes alone will do the trick and you won't wreck the foams. I use the baking trick and it works, both for removing tires and stinking up the house.

acetone works great! before putting them in the container, cut the tires off the rim. leaving only the bead. remove the foam and then place in the container over night. the bead will fall off!

Did you have any trouble with glue residue on the bead of the rim? Did it clean right off?

The glue more or less dissentegrates with the acetone method. Word of caution: If you are removing losi pink, panther c, j concepts gold, or proline mc and you mean to re-use the tires, [U]do not[U] use acetone. It will shrink and harden the rubber on those compounds. Your foam will likely be unusable too but I suspect if the tires and foam were good you wouldn't be removing them, eh?
