Differential oil question
I have been running 5 5 5 in all my diffs. If i still want my rear more planted, shouldn't i run something like 5 5 7?? doesn't the heavier oil in the rear cause the front diff whith lighter oil to unload more?
Am i wrong? |
Thinner front diff oil will free up you're steering and possibliy unload the inside front tire. Thinner center diff oil will unload more to the front end in general. Thinner rear diff oil will increase steering on corner entry, thicker rear diff oil will have less steering going into a turn but will want to fishtail more on the power on corner exit.

Lighter oil in the rear will allow more differential action in the rear, which will keep the rear from sliding as much. Lighter oil in the center will send more power to the front wheels.

Am i wrong? diff oils are typically something I would tinker with after working with shocks and swaybars. This is for a number of reasons.... You can do a lot more creative set-up changes with suspension and shocks. In addition, if you find that you don't like the diff oil setup, it is way more of a pain to change diff oil in a hurry. |
you are correct. I like the 555 set up, and i am not going to tinker now because i have to race this weekend.
Yeah, 557 does sound strange but i guess my thinking was a little off. 5 in the center is definitley better then 7 i find. you are right also about the shocks. When i got my ride height the way i want with the right oil and springs and most importantly tires, it was really alot better. I never had the mspec. I had the kit and i did not like the setup they had when i bought it a year and a half ago. i think i will try 553 thank you for all your help |

I ran the X6 last season. The best it felt for me was 5-5-2.

5-7-3 is my favorite. I also like 7-10-3 in hot summer month's....
