Default What about the generic brands?

Putting aside all of the major players in rc, is anyone using or has anyone played with the generic brands of the rc world? Is there any good buggies/trucks that come from China? Want to try and keep my costs down but don't want to spend a fortune on repairs and upgrades. Cheers.

Two words "JUST DON'T". That about sums it up as far as cheap knockoff brands go.

So I should stear clear hey? Someone mentioned HSP buggies & trucks but a couple of other people said they were no good and that they kept breaking down. Should I just stick to the major players then like Losi, AE, Kyosho, Mugen, XRay, O'Donnell & Hot Bodies?

You got the right idea there! Why even cosider a knockoff car when you can get a HB buggy for under $300?

Not doubting the quality of the knockoffs here as much as support. A car with zero support is useless. However there IS a quality/durability difference between a reputable brand and a cheap knockoff.

yep yep, stay with what works. Like the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Thanks guys, it seems like you like your Losi's - what of the top brands would you consider having apart from your Losi?

I LOVE my losi cars! Wouldn't trade them for ANTHING! Period!

But if I had to run something else it would be Mugen then Hotbodies. There are many other nice rigs too(Kyosho, Xray, Odonnell, AE, etc...).

Mugen Seiki would probably be my second choice.

The AE RC8B deserves some love. I have been a Mugen guy for years though and it is outstanding. There are a number of great buggies. Everyone has there own opinion on which to pick. It can get out of hand in a hurry.

Just get something that is main stream.

I agree with cheap knock offs of cars is not a good idea as there support is not good and the quality of the plastics is low grade .

But you cannot say anything about Asia and you know why ? were do you think all the high end models parts and assembly are done ?China ? Taiwan?
