DO NOT BUY USED ENGINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are gambling big time. you dont know what abuse that used engine has been through. I can tell you now, it looks like a nic on the piston on the right side of the pic. That there is either broken in wrong (which you dont want) or its more than broken in...

I have 3 engines at home that I have broke in - and they are still shinny at the top of the piston.

Ok thanks guys im not new to nitro but I have never taken apart a newly broken in motor. Its a revo platinum with a os 18tz motor and ths pipe. with dx2 triton charger, rpm arms(plus stock arms) rdlogics starter box, and some other stuff for 450 shipped. Is that even a decent deal?

That setting doesn't look very lean at all. OS carbs aren't the same as many others where the "flush" setting is close to a race tune. That does look to be about stock setting if the needle is the same as what is used on v-spec carbs.

As for the piston, it looks pretty fresh. I can tell you for sure he used something to wipe it off(like a rag) because you can see the center is clean. What that means though is that the carbon buildup is pretty light. It could be under 1 gallon. Or it could be much more it just depends on how it was run.

I generally agree about not buying used engines unless you know how it was treated. But if you are buying it in a truck, there's not much you can do. I would just open it up when you get it, give it a good cleaning(I'm not liking that a chip of loctight got into it) and run it. See how it goes. There is really no way to know until you have it in hand.

That's an OS 18TZ in a Revo dreaux. He's not buying the engine separately.

So should I go for it at 450 Shipped? Just hope the motor is in good shape. The rest of the revo is in awesome shape, no scratches from what I can tell on the chassis or any other parts below it.
