My buddy pitted for Drake at the PNB and before the race they were talking pit strategy and he said bring me in at 12 min or so. He wasn't even worried about going 13 minutes and that track was not a high traction surface-it wasn't bad but not great. He was running the exhaust cooler and the motor temped 245 at the end of the race-which he won!!!!
And yes one of the lower backplate holes has a rivet through it. Like was said I don't think he cares as long as it does the deed, hence the Hitec servos now.

Saw his motors run in Atl and promptly monday morning placed an order for a Plus4 Team. Surprisingly he didn't get as good runtime in truck as buggy, guess the track was a little long for the legs of a Plus4 in a truck.
I also agree the driver makes up the most important part of the equation.

Man 13 mins is hard to do for any engine unless the track is small and you never open it up. But 13 mins is great. Go drake.

I have seen some the Picco engines inside witch Degani ran at the worlds in Sweeden. Alberto and Eduardo showed me. They looked bone stock!!

There are alot! with theese small little wonders that moast of us, even alot of the good modders will not find.

They used aprox 1 hour to find a head button that would be the good fit to the sylinder. He had a huge plastic bag with only head buttons that he, Eduardo and Degani put back and forth into the engines.....There were atleast a couple of hundered.

At that test session, Deganis engines was the fastest ones and there were several engine manufacturers there.

Then the worlds race showed up and all the other guys took out the good shit and they were not so fast anymore. Even my Crono RS5 engines tuned from Recab in france were quite fast compared to some of the team guys. That was quite fun... Thoose engines was the best ones i ever had, even my spesial OS engines from Recab was not that good. Perfomance wise they were just like a +4 to drive and at the same track last year i got one minute more run time with the +4

There are ways to make an engine run longer runtimes.... first is alter the head button to function better with a lean mixture, coat the engine internals to reduce friction, and protect from less lubricant... run a very low oil fuel .... if you have the resources of a factory and know how you can make special engines that will outperform the standard production engine without much issue...with some of todays modern coatings and metal treatments you can greatly reduce the internal friction of an engine, and as a result you need less lubrication....less lubrication needed results in safely running a leaner mixture !

My off the shelf plus 4c gets about 12 to 13 minutes a tank, i just have to play with pipes at certain tracks to get it their! If i lean the crap out of it and run 25% fuel with 9% oil it will go almost 15! It is possible for all of us to do!

Do you guys run the Nitrotane fuel? Would you run it over O'donnell's?

I've ran both and they are quite similar to me, in fact my needles barely changed when switching back from Nitrotane to OD. Both feel crisp, tune well and both fry my eyeballs and nostrils more than other fuels I've used. Either one is great IMO.

The 2010 P5XLT also makes really good time. Now it comes with the same carburetor as the Plus 4. We tested a couple last week in Ft Lauderdale, medium traction and we were able to get 12 minutes on a tank. The powerband is super smooth, very easy to drive.

I honestly couldn't point you to a specific location where I found it. All I know is that it is freely available on the internet somewhere. Are there any other findings or suggestions you have to people who own a Plus 4? Whats the setup for the best power/fuel econ that you have experienced?

I wouldn't call an engine with a riveted-on backplate a 'stock' engine.

It's riveted to avoid "unofficial modding/tuning"

Exactly! Of 'their level' of racing you want a easy way to indentify a certain engine and you want to be sure nobody (and especially the competitors) has opened it and fooled around with it.

A man like Drake must be sure that the engine he uses is still the engine that he has tested and he must be sure that it is still the engine he has picked for a certain race. The rivets help by identifying the engines and the make sure that the internals stay as they suppose to be. They will never run an engine with a broken rivet at an important event!
