Carb Loose on Go .21
 

Hi

I've just bought a new second hand Go .21 for my 8ight 1.0. To fit it I had to loosen the set screw and rotate the carb slightly. Now when I tighten the screw as much as I can, the carb can still rotate. Is this normal/a problem?

Well, no it shouldnt be normal. Yes it can be a problem. Make sure the screw is tight enough and that its arranged properly. If you still have the problem it can get worse when it heats and the metal expands. To solve it you can put at the right angle, then seal it with a sealant. Now im not 100% sure on what sealant to use but if you find a high temperature sensor safe sealant for automotive use it should work fine. Also check if the O-Ring is warped or dried and rotted away, if so replace it that could be the entire problem.

Nope it is not normal. Check the pinch bolt setup, o-rings, etc and make sure everything is ok. For sealing the carb I recommend the lucky 7 sealant as well. It is what I use on my motors and works awesome. When you apply the sealant DON'T put it into the internal parts of the motor, like the carb neck, and inside of back plate. It is a wicking type sealant and when you apply it, you should put it on the outside of whatever your sealing and it will find it's way to where you are wanting to seal. For example, when the carb is tightened down, put the sealant around the outside of the base of the carb and case.

I had the same problem. Turned out that the ring around the carb neck (part that goes inside the crank case) was moving freely over the carb neck. I tried lucky 7, super gluing it ... nothing worked ended up replacing the carb with a grp carb that fit perfectly and the motor ran better than ever.

Thanks for the tips guys. I've ordered some of the Lucky 7 sealant, hopefully it makes it over here to Australia before next weekend's race meeting.

I'll try and get the carb off and check out the o-ring in the meantime. I had a quick try and it was pretty hard to get off but I've read that it can be difficult so I shall keep trying.

A new Gen Carb would be cheaper here, than to buy and ship some sealant from the USA !

As I think you'v done as XJ above done to his when you rotated it.

I have seen this a few times. Check the opening in the case where the 2 pieces to clamp the carb are. The ones I have seen that do not tighten down...the opening was not machined large enough to make the clamp bite down.
