It all really depends on what you mean by "speed" if you want take off speed or top speed. For better take off speed use the largest spur gear that you can use to still get your gearing. for top speed use the smallest spur you can to get your gearing.

Typically the more "power" the motor has the more amp draw it will pull so yes thier is a trade off to go faster you will use more battery but you should be able to find a happy compermise

it seems every motor has a "sweet spot" where it just rips.. you may have to gear down to obtain this.. you may have to gear up.. you just have to experiment..

the chameleon 2's sweet spot is when you over gear it by around 3 teeth.. very odd.. but it works well

okay.. like I said before.. you can overgear the chameleon 2.. it likes the strain for some reason.. it's your choice.. I personally have never had battery problems doing this on onroad or offroad.. you run 3300 batts.. you should be fine for 5 minutes..

to obtain the "proper" gear ratio is a personal thing.. I can't tell you what is best.. but I know I look for good punch while I'm driving the car to be able to clear jumps and get out of corners fast.. I try to obtain a proper ratio to get to top speed about 60% down the straight away.. if it's topping out right away.. it's probably too low of gear ratio and you need a bigger pinion.. if it never seems to get full speed.. you probably need a smaller pinion..

I adjust one tooth at a time.. right now you have a 22 tooth.. if that seems like it has too much torque and is topping out quick.. put a 23 on.. if it didn't change much put a 24 on.. visa versa..

in the chameleon 2's case I find it to like the overgearing though.. I just push it and push it until it finally just screems.. it will get hot this way.. but it never seems to melt the insulation and has worked for around 14 months of racing.. on and off.. that is a unique case.. I've never seen a motor work like that.. usually too hot means you just ruined a motor..

so, take my advise or not.. it's just what I do.. any other motor I would highly suggest to keep it cool and look for the "sweet spot" where the motor just has lots of torque and top end.. every single motor is different.. my chameleon 2 is different than yours and so on.. that's why I say you need to experiment..

is that enough for you?
