BTW, was at the track today and my engine died a couple times, took the body off and the filter had fell off!! It was tie wraped and everything.

When i took the air filter off the carburator was full of dirt. Sure nuff the engine was shot. No compression after that. Kept flaming out no matter what i did.

It only had about 2 gallons on it.
You're the King!

Yes the v-spec P/S in a ninja(ninja crank) should be an awesome engine. I may have to piece something together myself from old parts.

Going to get the speed crank.

Fwiw i have another ninja with about 8 gallons on it. The crank is still good but i want a new engine.

You might want to tear that latest dreaux special down and see if the crank is still any good. You may be able to salvage the crank out of it to use in your project.

Default thanks

thanks for the comments guys, we don't need tostart any issues with opinions, I too have a ninja thats just inconsistent on its tune and got tired of it, put the good ole trusty v-spec in, and it ran flawless, yes the power bands are different. Thats why I'm gonna try just swapping the crank, I know the ninja is got some timing changes, and alittle lighter so I'm gonna try just the crank.
I know the crankcase volume is differnt on the ninja, and I used to have a problem with the crankcase cracking on the v-spec, but I found out as long as the motor mounts are flared alittle, you won't crack any crankcases, atleastwe havent.

you said it. I am having a hell of a time with the tune on the ninja. When it's tuned right it's awsome. But its such a fine line.

I am going to try the poor man's speed. Ninja crank 3 port P/S with my vspec case.

But are you guys sure the carbs are the same? The ninja carb looks bigger to me.

so this would be pretty close to a speed right? I already have the ceramics.

Yes the carbs ARE the same.

I don't know that it would be close to a speed. The ninja crank is NOT a speed crank. I think the engine would be more like a standard v-spec than like a speed. In fact it may be even snappier than a v-spec because of the light weight ninja crank. It won't be speed smooth, but should be a powerful engine. Again this is all just an educated guess until someone actually tries it.

btw, what excactly is the difference between the speed crank and the ninja crank? Is it just the tungsten weight? Or the whole design?

As far as I know the tungsten weights are the only difference. It may have some different timing as well though.

From amains description...

Quote:
is loosely based on their V-Spec with some custom features: the crankcase is from the O.S. 28XZ engine and does not feature the distinctive O.S. 'black' coating, the sleeve port design is a bit different from the V-Spec, head design, the crankshaft has the same 'DLC' coating as the O.S. Speed V-spec but without counterweights. All in all a mix up of a few O.S. engines and Ninja branding.

Basically this engine is similar to a 5-port O.S. V-Spec engine!

what were the differences in powerband of the engine? was the vspec better/worse with the ninja crank?

I have both vspec and ninja motors. Unfortunatly the vspec crank is toast, so i have not been able to try it.

Which do you like better performance wise? the standard vspec or the vspec with the ninja crank?

if i remember correctly, the piston pin clips are different on the ninja then the vspec.

Can i use the tabed ninja clips on a vspec P/S? I already ordered them. And a ninja piston pin?

I ordered that too. Dont know why. (insert banging my head against the wall emotion)

You should be able to use them without a problem. I know you can use the pin and I don't think the clips would be a problem. Only difference is as you say the little tab.
