Default Air filter for performance

I have a hyper 7 with a Dynamite .21 and the stock air filter looks like

I removed it and installed a filter off a Tmaxx, that looks like

My thoughts before hand were-
- Moving air filter to new location, one that gives the filter fresh air, instead of being tucked near the cooling head sucking in heated air from the heat sink
- Cooler air equals more horse power
- Less bends in air filter hose allows the carb to recieve the air faster and unrestricted, there for not giving the air a chance to warm up.

My question is what do you guys think, what are the pros and cons.
I did notice my temps dropped quite a bit, and cools down more at idle.

I had one like the lower pic on my old RC10 GT and never had any issues with it but I'd stick with the original setup. It has exponentially more surface area and with the vehicle moving, there wont be enough heat soak to make a difference in performance.

This is the best filter set-up I have used to date. You can also get the pack of filters, and oil which will last you a long time. If you go this route, you will want the Pro-Line oval style, replacements.

I'm going to guess that your results (cooler temps) were a direct result of less airflow from the Traxxas filter system. This effectively richened your a/f ratio giving the results you noticed.

A short airfilter boot will breath better than a long one.

thats what happened. But is it really less air flow? Same type filter element that comes with the stock air filter.

I've seen people cut holes in the body right where the filter is at to get cooler air. But I'd get the proline filter and the lucky 7 foams. The foams come pre oiled so you can just toss them and always have a clean filter.

If all else was equal than yes, it has less air flow.

By the way the Tmaxx style filter doesn't have much filter surface area. To me that will clog up quickly.

The best flowing air filter that I've ever used, when clean or dirty, is the stock RC8T filter. This thing flows better dirty than most clean filters I've owned, but, the filters foams are thin compared to other filters, and need to be checked more often . If you want flow, try one.

The Proline setup looks great too!

I used the motor saver system for awhile and then went to the Losi 8ight system. Both of the filters are oiled and it has not let me down.
