Questions?? Radio Receiver Battery Question

So this is probably an easy answer, but I have a traxxas receiver on my rustler and I want to ditch AA's and put a standard 7.2v battery in front of the gas tank and get a Tamiya to futaba j conector to plug it into my receiver. Is this ok on the receiver and how long should I expect to safely use my 2000 battery.

Thanks,

Here is a picture for reference. Also I'm thinking having a little weight in the front will help with steering? Do you think thats correct? I'm waiting on shocks so I cant drive it at the moment.

Nimh RX packs are 5 cell 6.0 volts. You can get them in a hump pack or a flat pack. I would not give it the extra voltage unless you are sure the RX can handle it as well as the servos.

6-1= 5, so yes.
Why would you buy another charger? It is the connections that need to match.

i would buy a proper receiver pack, and then just make an adapter for your charger to it

In order to do it properly you will need a receiver pack and a charger. You can pick up a used charger off e-bay for between 20-30 bucks. Make sure it is a peak charger and can charge NiMh batteries. It should sense the number of cells and peak charge it for you. I would get a new battery so you don't have any issues there. There are tons to chose from but from the looks of your ride this one will do fine.

Here is an auction on a decent charger that will do what you need.

Also only charge your receiver pack at 1amp, never higher than that and it will last you a long time.

As for runtime, the pack above will run you for about an hour, maybe more depending on your servo's current draw.
