Can I power my starter box from my car battery or is it too powerful for my box?

most starter boxes come with an adapter to be able to hook it up to your car batter so yes you can if you would like.

just look up your starter box and the wireing options and most are set up to take 12 volt hobby battery thats the same as a car battery jsut need adapter for them

be sure to make the connections safe, you don't want to short something from a $50 starter box and damage your many thousand $ car. i recomend a 4 cell lipo, very powerful and a 2200 will last a month before it needs charge.

usually most starter box can fit in Lead Acid battery 12V. that u can get from any electrical shops. basically they work with car battery. the same goes to your DC-DC charger..

when u feel there is not much torque, just remove the batt & charge it. as for lipo it's risky cause u need to look at the cut off voltage. hence most starter motor they supply with tamiya connector. u can plug in 2 x 7.2 NiMH stick pack as added alternative.

nothing wrong with a car battery. it is just a battery that has high capacity and can handle high currents. it is the motor that pulls the power out of the battery and if the battery is not able to handle to load it will overheat and possibly get damaged.

with car battery that can handle 500Amps or more there is no risk using in in a starter box that needs lets say no more than 50Amps.

It is just too big and heavy to be dragged around

You can fit 2 Turnigy 30c 4S 5000mah packs in parrallel into a Ofna Truggy starter box.

Thats enough power to totally dismember your pit guys hand and snap the conrod of every motor on the track. Should go for a half dozen racedays between charges as well.

I saw one of these last week at the track. They are a little hard to move around in pit lane and they are very very heavy. Why not just use a 4s lipo the one mentioned above is actually cheaper than a car battery. But you only need 1 - 4. At a time. That's more than enough power.

I use protek 4s lipo's in mine. They have soo much power compared to a 12v battery. They are also very light which makes for easy handling of the starter box from the pits into and out of pit lane. They are relatively cheap and hold a charge forever. They also last much longer as far as the overall life of the battery. Well worth it in the long run.

i've gone through all the battery options and found lipo to be the best so far. as long as you have a good charger for the lipo and don't have to crank your motor all day to get it started you won't have a problem. if you want you can charge the lipo between heats, its only gonna be like 100mah or so but its good to be safe.
