Default HPI super nitro rally / nitro mt blowing gears

its winter so i'm not exactly using it but I figure I'd ask

I have an HPI super nitro rs4 rally of which I want to start using more frequently this comming summer. Problem is like every time I run it I blow a spur gear. I work at a hobby shop and I've been doing r/c for 10 years so by now I understand the concept of gear mesh.

It comes with the pathetic FE.15 motor and she's got an OS .18CVRX right now of which is probably 8x the power so thats part of the issue. It's got a reasonable gear ratio too.

Did they ever make a metal spur for these cars / trucks? the MT uses the same tranny as the rally car does. I know these are mad discontinued however i want to start using this badboy. I've been playing DiRT2 more than an alcaholic drinks these passed few weeks and I'm rally addicted
