Default Help....please!

All,

I have a new Losi 8ight 2.0 and have a novarossi p5x motor. Here are my issues:

1. Starts BUT spits alot of gas out and dies out when I hit the gas.

2. Does not idle. I need to hold the throttle a bit to keep it going.

The motor is factory settings out of the box which is like 5 and 3 turns out on high and low needle.

Any suggestions?

thanks in advance.

Start by leaning out the bottom. You only have a couple posts, so I am going to assume you are new to nitro. Read the above sticky post on how to tune motors. Dont be afraid to ask questions here

You want to turn the needles Clockwise to lean them. You really need to read the tuning bible though, maybe print it out and follow it as you tune your engine.

Lean=clockwise, Rich=anti clockwise.

Only 1hr adjustment a time and test run it. By the way, you need to run-in the engine if it was new engine.

Before you start leaning it out, has the motor been properly broken in? If not it needs to be run rich for a little while. I highly suggest you read the break in and tuning threads.

Yes, i have read that. My problem is I cant get it to stay running long enough. I literally take if off the starter box and it dies. OR i let off the throttle and it dies.

Also, is alot of gas supposed to be coming out of the pipe? The bench is wet next to where it is running...

thanks!

A lot of oil will be coming out of your pipe during break in. This is normal and necessary. Try turning up your idle enough to keep it running. You are going to want to heat cycle the motor 5 or 6 tanks before trying to start tuning it.

Sounds like the bottom end is rich. You need to lean the low speed needle.

You'll want to turn the screw clockwise to increase the idle. But by leaning out the low speed needle, the idle will increase.

Is this a new engine, or has it already been broken in?

This is a new engine. I have run about 2 tanks so far just by starting it every 2 seconds!

So, should I lean it out OR mess with the idle screw?

Raising the idle will still make the engine be rich on the bottom. Try leaning the Low speed needle(clockwise) a 1/4 turn and see if that will allow you to keep the engine running.

Follow the break in bible, and make sure you're preheating the engine.

lean the low speed 2 hours (clockwise turns) if it does not stay running by doing that do not lean ow speed anymore as the engine needs to be set rich for break in, but turn up your idle by screwing that in clockwise an hour at a time
OR
you can just turn up the trim on your remote for the time being to keep the throttle open just a tad.
hope this helps
