na once you get the tune right its, not to hard, and nova hold their, tune for a while. intil it gets freezing out, than you have to mess with it.

and also when your done breakin the engine in , only tune, at little turns at a time.

This was very helpful to me for a LONG time. Zoom in on it if need be.

I know the base settings on the P5 are very rich from the factory. Try this instead:

HSN- 3.25 turns out from seated

LSN- 3.5 turns out from seated

When seating the LSN, do not screw it in until you can't turn it. On nova carbs, the needle will damage the nozzle if you screw it in that far. What you need to do to seat it properly is turn it in 1-2 hours at a time pushing the slide in and letting the boot push it out slightly. When it gets to the point when the needle sticks inside the nozzle a little, the rubber boot will not have the strength to rebound the slide. That is the true seated position. To test it, turn the needle another 2 hours and you should have a difficult time pulling the slide out. That is too far and you need to back it out to where it was and then start to turn the needle out to 3.5 turns. Depending on the pipe you are running and the temps you are running in, the engine may need to go slightly richer or leaner but that will definately get you into the decent but conservative running condition so you can at least finish the breakin process.

The HSN you can seat the normal way and back it out from there.

This should get you going in the right direction. Let us know how you make out.

Default P5

Also check you Glow plug. I've seen plugs fire the engine up while the ingnitor is on and as soon as you release the ignitor or give the engine fuel it dies.

do this..
make sure the glow plug is good and bright and assuming the plug is the correct heat range (should be hot range for breaking in).
re-check you fuel line routing.
roll piston down to bdc.
set hsn to flush.
set lsn to 1 turn IN from flush.
set your idle gap to 0.6 mm with radio off and slide barrel closed.
heat up engine with blowdryer or heatgun.
prime,ignite then bump.

Take the fuel pressure line(the one that connects into the pipe) and blow into it. While doing this you should be able to see the fuel traveling from fuel line towards the carb. Stop just after the fuel reaches the carb.

Also look closely at the fuel line. Better yet get fresh. I can't tell you how many people have gone nuts over such a cheep thing.

dont mess with idle screw just yet set trim on your radio up to high idle and lean out low speed needle just a hour at a time as posted above until it will sit and run on its own it will blow smoke and fuel out this is good

You may want to spend an hour or so watching some of these videos, they helped me out when I first started.

http://www.youtube.com/user/Squirrelod

Also, if there is a track nearby or something go check it out, and talk to some of the folks there about tuning. In 1hr at the track I learn more than I could learn in 8hrs on the net.

That motor sure is a nice one to start with, be careful, good luck!
