Not to hijack the thread but is the the losi starter box any good if you dont use a lipo in it. I don't have a lipo charger and dont really want to spend the money on a charger just for a starter box battery if I dont have to. Or should I just get the ofna truggy box with a 12v gell cell.

I have the ofna big heavy brute box,all race day i am the one that gets asked to start all the barely broken in nova, grp,os with too much pinch. I feel like getting a single 550 box so nobody bugs me.

I use a 4s 8c Starter box battery from Common Sense.

IMO you don't need anything more then an 8c battery. It's over kill in my box as is, and sometimes I really have to do short bumps to start it as it makes the motor harder to start for me. I can only imagine what a 20c battery is like, and I hear thats what most people shoot for in a box. (overkill )

With my gel cell I just held it down and maybe had to blip the throttle once and it was running. My Lipo makes me have to play with the engine more to start it up for some reason.

Still love my Lipo though, but only because of the weight.

My Gel Cell would last as long or longer then my Lipo before needing a charge.

Ive heard many good things about the ofna truggy box like others have mentioned. I will say this, the chrome top will start anything and last you a life time. Ive had one that I purchased used 5 years ago and its still going. I think Ive replaced the switch once or twice and changed out the 12v gel cell. This thing has run in many motors from RB, Nova, OS and so on. Yeah its heavy but I dont know about you when I get to the track, I put it on our starting table we setup and it doesnt move from there all day.

That is a update of the 'OFNA Truggy Box'. Over here in the UK, the Blue one is either SMD or Fastrax branded. The Orange box is very very good. I think they've improved the motors a bit even though they are two 775s. I've got one and it's great, got a 12v in there. Heavy becuase of it but lasts along time . Get the Orange box mate you cannot go wrong!!! Plus it's cheaper to buy over here for us

Yes i do have the SMD Orange box . I had a SMD/Fastrax/Ofna (what ever brand you want to call it) Blue box before. Was great but had a hell of a lot of work put through it (5 engines,2 years worth of racing nearly every weekend). Orange box is very good (starts anything just like the Blue box) and personally holds the car better on the box for starting compared to the Blue.
