hi erm was wondering if i need to do anything extra to my picco p3.21b prior to running in cold conditions

I ran mine when it was about 30 degrees outside. I took some cotton rags and cut them into stripps. Then i put CA glue on strips of aluminum foil and glued the the picies of rag to it.

Wraped about 2 layers of this on the case and cooling head.

My engine got so hot it started smokin

no need to glue rags to aluminum LOL...just wrap the head with some aluminum foil, richen up the engine a little bit...keep head temps above 200 if possible.

blkstram you laugh but it really really works. I was running WFO, that's why it got so hot. JUst plain foil does not work good enough for me. Especially when breaking in a new engine

We race every weekend through the winter, it is regularly below freezing on the track side of the building. I usually put a little heat into the engine before start up. I use a heat gun and get the temp up to about 200* F before start up. I always richen up the motor before the 20 min. main. It seems like everyone's motors tend to lean out a little on the longer runs in the cold.

cheers guys im in northwest england at the mo like so its really cold like hasnt risen abouve freezing (0 deg C) for days and hve been running for about 1 hour each time tryed both things and didnt seem to start any quicker
but i always let it sit on idle for a good 15-20 mins after start to ensure im at op temps


if u check any world weather forcasters it will say frozen all over britan lol

and i had to richen up loads

for racing a little tip we do at The Speed Shop is use a thick high quality sock in a kids size. Cut it to fit and stretch over the head. Pre cut a little hole in the top for and you will be good to go. Just make sure to warm the engine before you start and it will probably be in the 200-220 range.

Just wondering if the sock might actually melt... Cotton and wool would probably be ok, but what about nylon and the elastic properties of the sock... I really do not want to ruin the nice finish of my motor...

I had a real hard time with the motors at last weekend´s practise with temps around 30f.

no need to let engine idle for 15-20 mins, its not going to get any hotter...let it idle for 1-2 mins then slowly reach wot, a few mins of running it around it should be good to go...
