Last season I blew a relatively new V-Spec after about 2 gallons of fuel. I finally tore the thing apart today and found some potentially problematic issues. Turns out the pin on the crankshaft that connects to the con rod sheered off and chunks of metal went flying around in a running engine. Miraculously the sleeve and piston are pristine. The engine case didn't fare so well. Check out the following images and let me know if you think it's worth trying to salvage this engine. I figure it will be $70 for a new crankshaft and $60 for new bearings. Maybe I just use this baby for parts, specifically the newer carb. Whatcha think? I'm having trouble getting excited about the V-Spec when something like this happens after barely any use. Sheesh!

Sounds like your at least $130 in repairs.. I would rather put that cash towards a new motor without issues...

By the time you buy a crank, bearings, case, and rod (the rod probably got damaged even if you can't tell) you could just about buy a new VSPEC... and you could certainly buy something like one of the new Alphas.

Scrap it.

I personally don't trust cases after a catastrophic failure like that.

IMO it's a parts donor now I'm afraid.

Save your money and headaches and buy a freshy...

Thats funny, I had a similar problem on mine to. Stick to GRP or Ninja

I personaly would chuck the motor and buy a used ninja or speed. The cranks on those motors (speed and ninja) are way stronger. Just use a new rod and your piston and sleeve. Keep the carb obviously those are arguably the best out there and fit on a ton of other motors.
