You can check the temperature of your engine with an infra red temperature gun. Something like one of these: http://www.amainhobbies.com/index.ph...ries-Temp-Guns

yep, temp gun will be the ticket. dont spit on the head and see if it boils or use any other crack pot method, just spend a few bucks (more like $30+) and get yourself a good temp gun

you can always just touch the cooling head for 10-15sec after a long run and judge the temp by how bad the burn on your hand is, or the safer method would be just to by a temp gun. they have some around $25-30 and some that are closer to $100. in my opinion they all work the same within a coupe degrees

Point the temp gun at the plug from above & lasking a temp gun the spit test will work.

You know what temp water boils at & spit will work close to water. Your choise of liquid at the top of the head(recomended) or down by the plug(acceptable) & see how long it takes to boil away. Just know top of head will be up to 30deg cooler than the plug where people point the lazer guns.

Just check as you bring it to temp often. It works but break in usually gets more attention than when the motor is normally run after break in. Meaning I would have the temp gun on hand for sure during break in but its not that important to me when racing.

We didnt have temp guns back in the old days & motors still lasted fairly long if you just paid attention to what you were doing.
