It get's to the point where i loose the notion of time and I'm just hitting fast consistent laps and after a while i look down at my mechanic to make sure he is still watching the stopwatch Because i get the impression that i'm doing the same lap over and over lol.
The best feeling is when you block out the announcer (and everything around you) and you just drive then you hear him say 1 minute to go and you're in first place
BEST FEELING EVER!
thats exactly what am talking about, but sometimes when you hear your car number in 1st position, you get so excited that you mess up everything, last month in Thailand (Nitro buggy Party Race) during my second qual, i was racing in a heat where all the guys were team drivers or team owners (Jurag Hudy) except me ofcourse i had a great run and was sure i'm in the top 5 positions, when they announced '' ONE MINUTE TO GO, CAR NUMBER 6 IN FIRST POSITION" unfortunately car number 6 was my car , man i started shaking and flipping all over the track, so i finished 3rd

but the adrenalin rush and the hand shaking is a must to have a good race IMO, it used to annoy me but now i cant live without it, just chew on nicotine GUM

Cheers

Hope I'm not out of my lane here, but I'll offer up what works for me:

"I can do this". "I didn't come here to lose". This is what I tell myself prior to each qualifying pass and each round of eliminations. Doesn't always work to my advantage or to advance me. What it does do is settle me for the racing moment.

In drag racing RC cars, each round is like a gunfight. You stand up there all alone in one lane with a competitor in the other lane. Everyone sees you either do well or you don't. Win or go home. No making it up next lap.

Interesting thread. And a necessary part of the racers toolkit for sure. Glad you asked it. Lots of good responses here.

BTW-I bash a 1/8 nitro buggy for stress relief.

We were kind of talking about this at the last race. It seemed like I was alone in that, I don't think about the race at all. My mind is completely elsewhere. I have never really been the nervous or intimidated type. The downside is that I never appear excited about anything.

I am about the same way. When I first started racing I would get to shaking so bad that I could hardly drive. Now I stay cool calm and collect. I actually kind of miss the shaking days it made it a little more intense for me.

I'm still laughing about the pretty eyes comment.

Talking calms me down but the guys on the stand thinks they are bothering me when they talk to me.
When you don't have anyone to talk to I humm a song like Stallone done on Driven. Try it next time you race. It helps.

Confidence and experience is everything. Battle is in the mind. I have also learned to stay focused on the goal not what is happening around me.

I have had problems with that. It was announced I was out front and easy would have TQ by a large amount. That announcement lead to many mistakes.

Funny story, I tried the earplug thing and it worked awesome. I was in such a zone that I didn't even hear my pitman calling me or remember to come in for fuel.

Chewing gum helps keeps your mind focus for some reason.

i love the nerves comming up to 30 min in the main but i would prefer not to hear how i am going as it normally makes me think to much about the other trucks and thus makes me have stacks for no reason.. i have a couple red bull 20 min before my finals so i can concentrate that long lol but it is the race calls as how i am going i could do with out.
