BIG PROBLEM!
i run a novarossi 21-4 and the case cracked from the SIC and i guess it finally gave and actually cracked near the engine mount holes. well, i got a new case in and i was putting everything back in there and when i put the backplate on, i was tightening it and the head broke off the screw and now i have half of a screw stuck in the block. i was thinking about just sealing it good around there and on the backplate, but it's really annoying me. is there any way i could get that screw out?

Take the back plate off. There should be enough screw that you can use small vice grips and back it out that way.

Left-handed drill bits work best for me.
Also, if it broke clean and you can pull the backplate off... Try heating the block some, spray some penetrant (PB 'Blaster) or other light-oil down the hole and take a sharp pick and 'push' it counterclockwise. EZ outs aren't a viable option. And don't overtighten the backplate screws next time Hercules :lol: |
Or you could remove the back plate and cut a slot in the screw and use a flat head screw driver to remove it. You want to cover the open space so you don't get any metal shavings inside the motor if using this method.
Always check you motor mount screws and you'll be fine.:D |

also center punch the bolt befor drilling so it doesnt wander off into your new case. |
I would advise caution when trying to remove a broken backplate screw; the screw shaft is notoriously close to the chamber, and with the slightest of bad moves, you could end up seriously compromising the backplate's seal.
Honestly, if it's just one broken screw, don't bother; I've been running a P5X with only 3 screws on the backplate for a couple of years with no problems. |

yes, when i was tightening it, i didnt even torque it at all and the screw head twisted off. its not that far in from flush but it is in a little bit to where i couldn't use a dremal to slot it.

If it's not in there tight, try taking a sharp pick and rotating it out first before tearing into it with the drill bit.
