Im sure the youngin will be MORE then happy with the Lipo power.(if he ran cells before) which im assuming he did due to needing a charger.

i found that out the hard way

you dont need a cut off persay...but more of a monitor.....HK has them for 4-5$.

Ive heard some horror storied of lipo's being sucked dry due to not charging or constantly stalling the box on the chasis or trying to free a "stuck at top dead" fresh motor.

If the motor's tuned properly you should rarely have to use the box for more then a couple seconds per start....BUT if your having issues constantly having to re-fire i could see sucking 2200mah down pretty quick...i run a 3000 and have a 2200 as a back up....im sure if need be i could stuff a 5000 from my E conversion if needed.

Its what happens when you run in A LOT of engines .

Even after heating them up , they can be a pain

Another contender:

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...dProduct=10277

It's a 2s1p Turnigy 30c 5200mah hardcase pack for a little over $20. I'm thinking I am going to go with two of these as opposed to the 20c 5000mah Turnigy 4s softcase pack I was going to get for about the same price. These 30c packs will also be useful in flashlight racing.
