Default O.S. Vspec Question

Can you put the sleeve piston and connecting rod from a speed into the regular vspec?

The basic different between those 2 pistons and sleeves is just the exhaust porting.(the speed has 2 elongations at either ends of the top) The connecting rod for the speed also has and oiling hole. The crank is the biggest part of what gives the speed its smoothness and amazing top end. So if that is your goal and your piston and sleeve are good a speed crank and rod would be your best bet to change.

If the standard crank is in good shape, not worn out, out of round, then yes.

I guess now that I know it should work. Would it be worth the extra to by the speed piston sleeve and rod since I need to replace that stuff anyway.

Sometimes you can find the speed p/s/r already assembled i n a combo. I know I picked up a few NIB on the for sale side for 165.

Or you can take your engine and send it in to AB mods and it will be better the the speed after you install ceramics

For what it is worth just buy a new speed. I have pretty much
done all of the above and it is not as good as a speed. The crank
is the hart of the whole thing by the time you get p/s/r and a crank
not to mention bearings you could have bout a new speed
just my two cents

I have a good standard crank brand new ceramic bearings(never even been started with them installed. I found a piston and sleeve and rod for a speed for a great price. For the difference from replacing it with the standard piston and sleeve and rod is the speed stuff that much better without the speed crank?

I had a engine in the configuration your talking about. You will get a smidget more top end so you could either run a .5 smaller restrictor for run time but all the bottom end is gona feel the same. If the difference is only like 20 bucks then heck ya go for it. I always use speed rods personaly because they have the oiling hole, which in turn gives more life to the lower rod bushing and crank pin. So if that is your major difference in price it is well worth it.

I just rebuilt a v-spec with speed crank, rod, p/s with ceramics and yes you can buy a speed for about the same money but I wanted the hands on experience and it was definitely rewarding but awful simple.
