Diff Crown and Bevel Pinion Gear
Hi Guys,
I run an Inferno GT2 buggy based on-road car and since the diff is the same as buggies, I figured this would be the best place to ask.
My car has a 43T crown and a 13T Bevel gear. I noticed that XRAY makes 42T, 41T, 40T, and even 38T diff crown gear.. but the largest diff pinion out there is a 13T.
Would the 13T mesh properly with the 40T or 38T?

Not if the gears are built the same.
A smaller ring ring gear will sit too far away from the pinion gear. It's too small and will not mesh.
They probally offset the gear teeth over further when they machine the optional gear ratios so that they mesh properly with only shim adjustments.
You just have to change the gears shape so that it holds its mesh closer.
In real cars you have to change the ring and pinion gear to change axel ratios. You can only shim the pinion so far, and they don't have as much room for funky ring gear desighns like we do.
I've got a 41 tooth gear on the way for my 809's active diff. (eta: fri or sat) I'll see what they changed to make it fit.
