What About 4Stroke!
Just wanted to see other peoples thought about this.If it ever happens what would mean for our hobby/sport?I think it would be cool. With todays cars being lighter the weight would not be a problem and the slightly lower power output.Lets hear what you guys think.

what would be the point?

Why would weight be a problem? A Saito .54 weighs about the same as a OS .28 xz last time I checked.
Have you seen one? Awesome performance in a truggy. A little less top end. Improved torque, throttle response, tune, less wheel spin.

Yes i have seen the os engine you speak of.But i would not say that was a ground up design. We need a 4stroke engine designed for 1/8 scale specificly.

4 stroke engine dont make as much power per cc as a 2 stroke. so if you took a .21 four stroke agenst a .21 two stoke the two stroke would dominate. bringing in the four stroke would have to mean that they would need to make a handicap size just so the four troke can keep up. I just dont se RC racing going in this direcion..

As i said the cars are getting very light.Every one is going for runtime now and as a result the engines are making less power.Yes 4stroke make less power.Every one knows that. But with todays teck.i think they would be very good. Our cars are over powerd as is.Ever watch motor cross.

Yes, we would have to run around .48-.51 size engines.
If the clubs allow electric in with nitro, I don't see why they wouldn't allow bidg 4-strokes or .28 2's in buggies.
If the rules are open enough to run electric or nitro together, their open enough for nearly any powerplant.
Some have run 4 stroke airplane engines in their truggies. It worked well enough. A 4 stroke specially desighned for cars would be way better.
I don't expect any engine companys to have the balls to produce one any time soon.
They'd make one, and all the Momos would blow it up quickly. They'd get a bad rap and all that R&D $$$ would be wasted. From a manufacturer stand point, it deosn't look like a safe bet to produce.

I used to run karts and you had the option of 2-stroke vs 4-stroke. the 2 stroke motors were lighter, faster and cheaper. The 4 strokes used a whole lot more fuel too. It would be tough to set up rules to keep parity. the 4 stroke would need to be bigger in size and have bigger fuel tanks.

There is three advantages 2stroke have over 4stroke.Cost wight peak power output for given wight.Thats it.
