Default First "away" race tips & tricks?

I'm going to be going to my first big "away" race and wondered if any of you frequent travelers had any tips or tricks to share. I'm driving so airline regs & difficulties aren't an issue. Obviously I'll be bringing along extra parts, servos, spare engine, plenty of fuel, etc., but am going solo and anything that might make the experience go smoother would be much appreciated. What are some things you do/take/plan to make your trip & race go well?

Thanks!

1) Make a checklist

2) Use the checklist.

If you sit down with your "usual" equipment stash and write everything down (even seemingly insignificant little parts) you should be ok.

Batteries, charger(s), CAR,RADIO, fuel and fuel bottle are often forgotten in the excitement of a 'big trip'.

Realize there may be some things you take that you *really* don't ever need, so you may want to leave some things out for sake of packing light.

Take a road map as well. GPS doesn't *always* work and things happen...you'll be glad you had a map.

Heh, actually no I don't. I was wondering if this would pop up

I'm pretty easygoing and friendly and am looking forward to meeting a bunch of new people. I'm hoping to find someone not running in the same classes I am and swapping pit duties for each other but if I have to I'll hit a Home Depot or grab a hobo

You shouldn't have a problem finding a pit guy. I always go to the track without a pit guy, most of the time it's a trade off. He pits for you, you pit for him type of thing.

Care to give an example from your own experience?

And yeah, the checklist is a great idea.

Get there early. "Murphy" allways looks for someone in a hurry.

Have you pit box organized so you know where everything is at, right down to your extra screws.

Can't find a pit guy............................................... show a little leg!

Don't jump off the drivers stand without your cape.

Visine and an extras set of contacts if you wear them. See lots of drivers crying on the stand on dusty days.

That how I do it, but I always get my balls busted for it. But for some reason I always seem to be the guy everyone goes to for something.

Have everything completly ready to go before you get to the track. Don't leave anything for the last minute that could be done ahead of time. Don't stay up all night the night before you leave trying to get things ready. Plan ahead.

Be organized! This will keep you relaxed and having fun at the track.
