roto starter MAGIC touch!!!!
i dont have a roto starter, instead i use a drill with a flat head screw bit. my problem is that when i use that to start the engine it wont start and i hear people say that u can use a drill instead of a roto starter. today i went to the local shop to see what the problem is and there was no problem, the guy just used a ROTO STARTER to start the engine and he even sayed u can use a drill. i know ur thinking WHY DONT U BUY A roto starter but i see it useless if i can just use a drill. is their some kind of a special feature in the roto starter??? cant i just buy the extension bit that they have for the roto starter and put it in the drill????

I belive the roto-starter has a clutch that lets the engine spin faster then the motor. After it starts it, it then probably stops it due to the drill not spinning as fast as the engine.

thats makes sense! when i use the drill the motor sounds like its moving fast but when i look down the piston its not moving as fast. thanks!!!!

I ran into a similar problem with my Hudy breakin bench. It comes with a drill adapter so you can spin the prop with a drill.
A freewheeling ac drill starts the motor fine but a cordless DC drill with brake will not. I think it holds the engine.
I just use an airplane starter now or flip the prop by hand.
ps: bumpbox- ofna truggy

Doesn't roto start backplates have a oneway bearing so that when the engine starts it doesn't create drag.

if i go the wrong way(clockwise) the engine wont turn but if i turn it counter clockwise the engine turns. the one way bearing is fine. whats a bumb box?

a bumb box is a starter box.....a electric motor or pair of motor's sit's inside and spin's a wheel which you touch on the flywheel and voila motor starts.

Roto start isfaster than torque start but box starter faster than both. My brother ran into a problem were the tourque was not fast enough but the roto was, but he still steals my box starter once in a while.
