Questions?? SHUTTING OFF YOUR ENGINE

Which is better for your engine? Shutting it off by sticking something in the tuned pipe and then putting the fly wheel in bottom dead center or moving the flywheel with your shoe and then putting the flywheel in bottom dead center?

Default 2nd option

I always touch the flywheel with my shoe or screwdriver handle. I watched the pros at Rc Expo this year in Pomona and they all did the same. I believe that plugging the exhaust just blows out seals faster that not doing it that way.

Stopping the flywheel is the best way.

What about pinching off the fuel line?

Stopping the flywheel is best because any of the other methods will either flood the motor (blocking stinger or carb) or starve it (pinching fuel line) both of which will make it a bit harder to start the next time.

if the car is just ideling ill just stop the flywheel with my finger. trying to get your shoe into the hole is too much a pain in the butt.

if its run away, hold in down on the ground and plug the exhaust

Stopping the fly wheel with a shoe is the best, it has no effect on the motor except stopping it.

Finger over a hot pipe??? not good
Cutting the fuel to the motor, is cutting the lubrication off & kills plugs.... not good
Finger over the carb, kills the plug & dirt can get in easier.... not good

I just bought some gloves for marshalling but I still aint sticking my fingers anywhere near a flywheel. Ive seen more than a couple times people destroy their fingers. I hate to say it but if you have a run away and your counting on me to shut your engine down your in bad shape. I'll hold it on the ground if I can catch it until someone comes and shuts the engine down but I am not risking injury...sorry.

ive gotten my finger chewed up once when i tried to stop a runaway by putting my finger on the flywheel (for some reason i was thinking the gloves wouldnt get torn through by the flywheel ) i knew better before hand, but in the heat of the moment i wasnt thinking properly

and besides, i never said anything about putting your gloved finger on the fllywheel for a run away. only if its idleing. reading is fun

also, if you have gloves on and you catch a runaway and just hold it there waiting for somebody else to stop it. youre retarded. stop being a pussy and turn the car off.

I never said you said to stop a runaway with your gloved fingers

You can ruin your gloves and fingers and I'll be the pussy with all my fingers. I need them to make a living

I just park my car, walk off the driverstand, pick up my car, and dump it on my starter box. Somewhere in there it should have stalled or run out of fuel.

If the thing isn't done by then I just put my finger over the pipe.
