Default Diff oil vs Shock Oil

Hey guys, what's the difference between the 2? Diff oils seem to be from around 500-50,000cst, and shock oils are like 10-100weight. What's a cst and what's a weight? Can shock oils be used in diffs? If so, what does say a 50wt convert to in cst?

Thanks
Chris

There is no difference between diff and shock oil other than viscosity. Certain companies use certain ratings for both shock and diff oil. US-based companies like AE and Losi, rate their oils in weights. Many overseas companies like Mugen and Xray rate their oils in cst.

For example, 400cst shock oil is approximately equal to 40wt.

50,000cst diff oil is approximately equal to 5000wt.

However, different brands that are rated at the same viscosity may not actually be the same. Associated 40WT, for example, is equivalent to Losi's 37.5WT or something like that.

Did a quick google search and found this:

I actually remember reading that awhile back.

500 is shock oil. About 40wt.
