How to measure front toe in/out?

No accurate way without. You can however get a good idea or at least a ref point by measuring. A bent(to fit over steering top plate) coat hanger will work between wheels will give you a rough idea of toe in/out. If you have good tires with say AKA insertswich are fairly stiff or just unmounted rims you can set the car on back wheels vertical with wing off end of table & use a square to eye ball. You can also draw a line on something & put car centerline over drawn line & hope for the best using rear wheel toe for reference their normaly fixed at hubs & 3 deg for most cars. Measuring toe links is also a way but not much difference at links can be a big difference in toe. Just remember just because rims are new does not mean they sit square on wheels, they are molded not machined. For random cars like my baja I went to home depot got 1/4" plexiglass, cut 4 perfectly square pieces & drilled a hole dead center & installed like a setup station & measured like with calipers & angle finder for rough setting for symetry & fine tuned while driving. Get creative & hope for the best getting it the same next time you try to duplicate what works well.

if all you care about is getting it even, you can get it close by using calipers and measuring the length of the turnbuckle responsible for setting toe. make sure that the lengths on both sides are even. that's what i usually do before i start eyeballing toe or putting it on my setup station.

i have had good luck putting the front wheels against a wall and using a camber gauge. instead of putting the gauge on the ground/table like you would to measure camber....put it on the wall in front of the car and use it to measure the angle of the toe in or out.
