life. I have been beating my head agaist the wall and tunning my poor engine too lean to get the temps everyone says you have to have to get the engine to run at optimum performance. Well i reset my needles for the best power reguardless of temp. And it stays in the 180 maybe 190 range. And my ninja already outperforms my vspec by a decent margin. It has crazy bottom and top. Fastest buggy on the track. and i still can't turn over the flywheel with the glow plug out after a gallon, i can when it's hot though.

i preheat my engine before every run too.


So, no one can ever convince me that a engine has to be over 200. Tunning to temps is ridiculous. I am about to throw away my temp gun. But it is still usefull for preheating and to guard from overheating (if that ever happens)

I am tired of people saying get it over 200, wrap a sock, wristband, foil around it etc etc.

What Kind of temp gun do you have? If your motor is running right and has the good smoke trail and power then i bet it is close to 200 mark but you are right use a temp gun only to make sure it dose not run to hot but tune for power and sound and watch you motor to make sure it had good smoke coming out is the best way.

If it's running well then great. If it's not and you don't know why (chasing the tune) then a temp gun can point you in the right direction. Nothing outperforms a properly tuned V-spec by a decent margin. Something is wrong with the tune on that thing or it's worn out.

yes my vspec is my old engine. But it ran hotter then my ninja. my ninja is just better. The way it delivers the power, it's easier for me to drive. Plus i learned how to tune on my vspec. so that would explain my ninja outperforming it.

i haven't put my restrictor in yet. I will have to retune correct? and since i have no factory settings on my ninja i will just put the low end flush and the high end 2.5 or 3 turns out. I do have a issue with tunning just the high speed needle first. I do but i have to lean the low in a bit too to get a good read on the high end.

So will the restrictor maybe make it run hotter? I don't know why i have not put it in yet.

I would check your temp gun, I agree though as long as it runs good and there is smoke you don't need the temp gun.

The reason why you want your temps above 212 is that is when the piston expands so it doesnt cause premature wear on the connecting rod and on the piston/sleeve. Running cool will decrease compression because the sleeve hasnt expanded. I have heard that putting a smaller restricor in will heat the engine up a little bit more. You say you dont have a restrictor in now? Why in the world would you take that 9mm out in it?

What temp gun do you have? Clean the tip with a qu-tip or cottom and see what the temp reads. I have found that Furatrax Flaspoints dont read very accurately. Compare it with a Exergen at the track, or any other guage for that matter. if you want temps to go up, put a little tin oil over the head to get it in the 220-240 range. Cant hurt really. Also, what outside temps are you running in?

Boil some water 212f is what water boils at when it starts to boil check to make sure you gun shows 212f are some wear around that number.

I still don't see why you would lean the engine till it hit 200+ degrees if it's running awesome.

Apparently people forgot that the GRP engine ran under 200. If yon ran that engine over 200 you were to lean.

Just a though.

Well not every motor is the same,my picco evo 3 loves the 230-250 range ,my 3.3 loved 280, my brothers force 28 230-240, my local hobby guys force 28 loves 250-270, my older force 28 210-220 and my buddies hyper 190-210.
So we have three force motors that run in different ranges and these were tuned for performance then temp to see where about they are runing.

I know. Just making the point that motors don't have to be over 200 after break in.
