Default preheating Nitro engine

is 230 to high? I say that because i heat through the cooling head and the block only gets to 150.

i plan on always heating it up. Is that ok?

At head that is not too hot. At base of head temping from side should around 160-180. Hope this helps.

Thats good for heating, thats enough for the sleeve to expand a little for easy starting.

You should definitely focus on heating the top end of the engine block so that the piston gets hot as well. I usually heat up both sides. But it should work as well from the cooling head. And the temp depends on your engine. I started at 200-210 then if it wasnt enough to start the motor i raised the temp until it started.

dreaux dreaux dreaux......

Your thinking about everythign wayy too much. Just run the car!

The cooling head isnt where the piston expands, it expands in the crankcase. For breakin, I have my heat gun on the head, but I check temps on the case and go for around 200. Generally the temps come to about 300 degrees on the head. I heat the head because if you head the block up you will heat it on 3 out of 4 sides, the side that wont get as hot is the carb side since you arent suppose to preheat the carb. Thats why if you heat the head up the heat is even so one side of the pistons isnt cold and the other side at 200 degrees.
