Default LOSI 8b/8t 2.0

How many of you guys are still using the 4-shoe set-up with the 8ight b and t 2.0? I always run into the problem of those clutch pin screws stripping and im always stuck using a dremel to get them out. I don;t even over tighten them. As soon as they are snug i stop.

I wanted to know if there was a 3-shoe set up i could use instead? I heard something about using the ofna flywheel and such. Just don't know what parts i would need and what clutch bell i would be using. i have an old jammin x1-crt laying around and could just take that clutch set-up if it would work.

Thanks guys!

I have always used the standard 4 shoe set-up. Never had a problem with the screws myself. I use a good wrench and even blue thread lock. Not sure. Maybe a better wrench hex tip? Hope you can figure it out, because the clutch set-up is awesome.

i use the 4-shoe clutch setup also and havent had a problem since i got a good hex wrench..when i had a crappy hex wrench i would push the hex in the screw and put pressure on it and turn it and it wouldnt strip.

don't get me wrong I do love the 4-shoe set-up. I actually narrowed it down a few mins ago. The alum. flywheel that i had to borrow from a buddy at a race had the treads stripped so it was holding down the screws. Ive never had a problem with my truggy flywheel.

I kinda wanted to use the 3 shoe just because its a lot cheaper for new clutches. 14 bucks for 2 alum clutch shoes is breaking the bank. haha.

I think im going to pick up 2 steel flywheels today and just con't to use it. I wish i knew that the flywheel threads were stripped. would have made my life a lot easier.

I have always used the 4 shoe losi setup on my 1.0 and on my 2.0 no probs. I have striped a few heads on the pins but who hasn't striped a head on a screw or 2. I like the losi setup because it is very easy to rebuild, no more busted fingers or hard spring instals. I use the king headz 6061 alum shoes on my truggy and an alum fly wheel. On the buggy same shoes but a steel flywheel to tame the bottom down a bit and make it easier to drive.

oh yeah and slayyer what plugs are you using for your jpx .21? Ive been using p3s and i think that they are to hott. I was going to try using a OD 97T or something around there. The idle would be great but it would run around 240. It only has about a gallon through so far too.

i actually just picked up the kings head clutch shoes from a local shop for 28 for 4. They actually look like they will last a bit longer than the stock. I also am going to try the dynamite long life shoes this weekend and see how they do as well. I think im just going to stick to the 4-shoe. i love how easy it is to put shoes on. i can change all four between qualifying if i have to.

I have the hudy hex set along with the ofna and dynamite. They all work wonders. Thanks guys.

Two of the four clutch pin screws in my RTR flywheel got stripped out the first time i rebuilt it, but that was because i was using a crappy hex key. Since I got some decent hex drivers i haven't had that happen again.

I'm on my third losi eight now and have only used the mugen 3 shoe setup on all of them and would never use anything different.

Using a standard 3-shoe clutch requires a quick change mount that can turn the top blocks around. This mounts the engine a few mm farther forward. The standard 3-shoes clutch bells are shorter length wise than the Losi bells.

I too love teh losi clutch set up. After dealing with the loctite from the factory and dremeling the clutch pins for removal, replace them with new ones, dont' use loctite, and the clutch pins do not need to be super tight. They steel pins will bind on the aluminum flywheel for some reason. So just snug is all that is needed. Oh and a good hex driver too.
