Default Breaking in v-spec temp question

I'm out in a parking lot at the moment breaking in my v-spec. (thank you iPhone) i'm only closely watching temp because it's a break in. I'm getting around 190 at the glow plug and plenty of smoke. What has me worried is out the exhaust port of the engine and the pipe itself are sometimes read at nearly 100 degrees hotter. (280-290F).

Is this normal? Or more importantly, is it safe for break in?

+1 just check the temp right above he head, directly over the glow plug, The exhaust will be quite a bit hotter on the readings.

Thanks guys. Thought I remembered that, its been a while since i've closely monitored temps. Just was worried because the thing was slobbering rich @ factory settings and i had to lean it almost 1 and 1/2 full turns to keep it running.
