Sounds like he realized what he was buying when he got it, so thats good. Just check all the nuts and screws often, and scour the net and local racers for similar buggies. Most of the made in china brands are knock offs on an existing model. The engineering and tooling costs to design their own models are prohibitive so they quite truthfully steal others designs! Not trying to step on the toes of any Asian members of the board, but reading all the issues with copied designs and black market software issues they have there, it seems to be a very common practice in China.
That being said, it may be a copy of an existing buggy and parts MAY be swapable form another buggy when they break. Something to look into. There IS something to be said for a buggy that you really dont care what happens to it versus trashing you race buggy by accident while goofin with some buds...
So save up. get a good buggy( the Tamiya you mentioned is a good one) and have something that you can rely on and it will make you say OMG! Why did I buy that POS at all! LOL
