Default Idling Problem

I can't seem to get my buggy running right. I have to grab alot of throttle to keep it idling. The idle gap is pretty wide at that point, but it idles. As soon as i release the throttle it dies. It requires the idle gap to be open pretty far. Is that an overly lean bottom end? I had to lean the LSN alot just to get it to start and stay running. It runs fine when i give it alot of throttle, nice smoke, no bog. The you let go of the "trigger" and it stalls like it's cutting of the idle gap all the way. But it's not. The throttle linkage is set up perfectly.

You have a clutch shoe dragging or the low speed is too rich.

You should be able to set your idle gap at 1 turn from JUST closed and leave it... then if it doesn't idle, slowly lean the bottom end till it does...

Have you re-built the engine in the past?

If you did than you could have put the piston in the wrong way. The symptoms are that the engine will run but it wont stay idling.

I just rebuilt the engine, but the piston is in correct, because in my motor it only works in one direction.

You can put the piston in wrong but it will still run right, it just will not stay idling. Trust me I've done it.

Did you pull the back-plate while the piston was at BDC?

I think i did when i rebuilt it. Because there isn't any debris in the motor. I just probably didn't even notice it being broken.

Ouch!....You have just learned 2 really good but expensive lessons..always move the piston to the top before you pull the backplate off, and always pay attention to which way the piston came out so you can put it back the same way...Sorry you learned the hard way. I promise you will never do that again!!!
