Default Engine Question

Hello all,

I have an engine that when I turn the crankshaft manually creates a metal on metal grinding sound. There is still pinch but it seems that when the piston is sliding up and down within the sleeve, there is too much friction.

I am comparing this sound to the other engines I have and there isn't as much grinding when doing the same thing.

Does it just need more oil or is something else likely wrong that could create problems if I were to run it?

Thoughts?

Thanks.

As the piston slides through the pinch the bearings are getting loaded. I would give the bearings a serious look at. Pull the p&s and turn the crank over. Check for play & roughness.

No flywheel or clutch components are installed. Other than the front bearing, the crankshaft is bare.

Garett,

If you don't have the equipment to go through the engine let me know. I offer a service that does engine rebuilds along with other things. I have a thread in this forum called "the Speed Shop". Check it out. I have bearings in stock, etc. We do a lot of engines, race preps, etc and have good references.

I would be glad to take a look at it for nothing, just get it to me. We can look at what it needs and go from there.

My email is alanburton20@gmail.com
