Reedy 121VR X-Dyno Tested

I finally got around to doing some dyno testing on the Reedy 121VR .21 Off Road engine. I ran it in my truggy and noticed it had some good snap but seemed like it hit a brick wall and didn't want to rev out as if it didn't have a lot of top end power. I had been getting this feedback from customers that have sent these engines in for modification as well.. So on the dyno it went for the real unbiased test to see its entire power curve. The dyno showed exactly what i observed in car... Good punch but lack of top end. So to the mod bench it went.. Then back on the dyno for some testing. As you can see by the dyno chart the modifications have really woke up the top end and now this engine revs out a lot better due to its new found HP/TQ "in areas" in excess of .5 HP! And even gained some power down low as well. The engine now feels much smoother in car as the power doesnt fall off so hard in the higher RPM range keeping a more even feel through the entire power band.

Hey Adam i called you about my v-spec last week. Should i go back to the v-spec or try the reedy. Because for the price for the reedy you cant go wrong.

Why are you using a 1005 instead of a 2035 or 2060 ?

Colt4g63 07-29-2009 12:11 PM

Chris Reilly, this was a baseline test so I used the MSR 1005 like i do on most my baseline testing for a before and after to keep things fair. I have tested many times the 2035 on engines and it has less top end then the MSR 1005 on everything ive tested it on including the Vspec that this engine is fairly close to. With as much testing as i do its hard to test every combonation out there. Theres only so much time in a day :)

Chad24, I prefer the Vspec over the Reedy. But the Reedy is a good engine for the $. The Vspec does perform better though stock and modified. So it comes down to if its worth the extra $ to you or not.

Man that thing really DIED after 30k. Very nice looking gains on the top.

Wow, that is too funny. I have two of the 121vr's, only one is broken in and ready to run. I bought two right off the bat because I love the tech specs of the engine. A couple of the guys over seas that received them early raved about them. Anyone that asks me about the engine I have the same response. "The thing has great bottom end punch, but nothing up top." I though that is was just my tuning at first. But I am glad you put the chart up to confirm what I already thought. Coming off corners and hitting slower speed jumps, the engine is great. When it comes time for the doubles or triples. I come up short. Oh well, looks like its off to modville for the 121's.

that is an awesome graph... looks like that motor works quite well now..
Maybe i am doing something wrong but, my reedy has no problems on the top-end and crazy bottom end.... temps around the 260 range. Its in a heavy truck too.... I am comparing this to the other engines around our area, mostly modded piccos and jpx 21s.

You just get in there and start cutting things left and right...metal flying everywhere... and finish it up with a good ol sand blasting to smooth it all out! :p :D
