I usually block the holes on the rim and punch holes in the tires, to be honest.

I vent the tire.... Venting the rim let's in dirt/water, you can still do it carfuly with a lether punch! Lowes has them!

I use a dremal, dremal 12 and 6 oclock on the wheel and 12,3,6 and 9 oclock on the tires.

only stupid thing is i have glued them on in a hurry not thinking so the are on the rim so wouldnt drilling the rubber being soft rip it or should i use a needle and burn a small hole in the tire

2 holes in the tire. Only one is needed for the AKA foams. And plug the holes in the rims if they have em. AKA does not though. As said above you need a leather punch. They are super cheap and a good tool to have. Nothing even comes close for punching tires. You can still do it if you are carefull.

if you get leather punch pliers, pinch(fold over) the center of the tire tread & only punch 1/2 a hole & when you let go of the pinch it will be a round-ish hole. I have forgotten before & tried several way & thats the easiest/cleanest way.Be careful & no one can tell you forgot to punch first, again.

yip i hear ya no holes in the rims 12 6 3 9 9n the tire even for aka but im in aussie land and we dont have lowes ill scan around shoe shops they should have them thanks

Mr Busta,

in Aussie land go to Bunnings and they have the rotary style hole punch for around $18. I have used mine with the smallest 2mm hole on every tyre and theyre great.

If you're careful you can use the hole punch on a glued tyre. I tried it on an old set of Bowties to see and squeezing carefully you can pierce the tyre and not go into the foam or damage the rim. The key here is careful and gentle.

I prefeer not to vent at all. I do run a very light suspension 27.5 and 32.5 but I have never vented my aka's. Then I bought a set of premounts and he tires are punched with holes. I find that the vented tired elongate at high rpm and the non vented tires hold their original shape and do not. I cNt say I have noticed a huge diggfferenc on the track between vented and non but I do like the wY the non hold their shape even at very high rpm's. I'm now running proline calibers non venter and the same results. Guess I'm a non vented knda guy.

I have to agree on that. I have run vented and non-vented, and I came to the conclusion that its better to NOT vent the tires. I have not noticed any difference in traction and with the formed foam inserts, the tires hold their shape. I have been reading on this topic, and it seems to me with the new technology in tires, its better to leave them alone. I never buy premounted tires as I like to boil my rims before mounting the rubber.
