Default Hot to stop a OS engine

Hello all,
I read somewhere the other day that its not good for the engine to put your finger over the side pipe to turn it off. Is this True?

I also read that the best way to turn it off is to pinch the fuel line, which I think will still cause it to run, just leaner.

Whats the best way to turn off the OS engine without letting the tank run dry?

You could hit touch the flywheel with the end of a screwdriver (I use my finger.)

If you plug the exhaust the motor shuts off from flooding. Not a bad thing to do during the races because you'll start it back up. It's bad to shut the motor off using the exhaust if you are done for the day. Reason, rust.

If you pinch the line (hard enough) it's the same effect as your motor running out of fuel. It'll die and there will not be any residual fuel left in the crankcase to cause rust.

Always put in after run oil when storing your car for the week.

get a losi turning screw driver and just bump the fly wheel alot of us are brave and we just use are thumb as long as the ideal is right you wont hurt your self but if it reving a lil high dont do it why i use the losi screw driver ever time

If it gets stuck oh high or wot. Flip your car over and stop the flywheel with your shoe. Please not your finger.

if you're near your starter box, you can turn the box off and stop it with that
your shoes on the flywheel works great too
that exhaust plug from dynamite etc. works great
pinching the fuel line
dubro actually makes a fuel line cut off thing
i've seen some people with heavy gloves just palm the flywheel

I think stopping the flywheel is the best. I use a put clove or whatever is available. Plugging the pipe puts added stress and increase pressure in the engine, this is unnecessary. Pinching the line causes the engine to run lean before it dies, lean is not the best thing for an engine. Ill stick with stopping the flywheel.

as stated a few posts above
pinching the fuel line is similar to running out of fuel
running the fuel out needs to be done anyways at the end of the day

i always put my finger on the flywheel to kill it, that way i can immediately put the motor at BDC, dump my fuel out the of the tank if i'm done for the day, pull the plug and put afterrun oil in, turn over a couple of times by hand, good to go until i fire again the next week...

I always do fuel line. I think that is the method which is best for your engine. Doesn't stopping the flywheel also put stress on your engine.

Touching the flywheel is the correct way to turn off your engine.
Plugging the exhaust damages the glow plug.
Pinching the line starves the engine of lubrication. If it's the end of the day pinching the line and or just letting it run out at idle is ok.

Wow ok, getting some mixed reports, thats good. Seems that most prefer to stop the flywheel. In the past with my road car I let it run out of fuel but in the break in process, which im about to start this weekend, ive been told not to let it run out of fuel and lean out during the break in process.

Since most of us believe stopping the flywheel is best I will try and do this.

Alan D. You mentioned something about putting after run oil into it when your done for the day. I have never heard of this before. If I manage to get some do you put it in the tank or just unscrew the glow blug and put it in the chamber directly?

To use after run oil just take out the glow plug and put a couple drops right into the engine through the glow plug hole. Then gently turn the engine over a couple times to spread the oil.

run the engine out of fuel on the box(after you finish the break in process) and put a few drops of after run down the glow plug hole then spin it on the starter box after you put the plug back in...im almost 100% positive after run oil is ATF fluid...carefull if you have a engine with a epoxy stuffed crank like a 0.S speed the after run can make the silcone filling swell and pop out

DONT PUT IT DOWN THE CARB THROAT!

I've always believed that just shutting the car down and putting it away will produce rust in a motor no matter what fuel people use. I also believe that if you don't run the motor out of fuel after a day of running then you have a possibility that the residual fuel would attract moisture and rust the internals.

I place 5 drops into the carb while it is wide open, remove the glow plug and spin the motor for 5 seconds on the box. If your motor has a silicone filled crank try and get the majority of the after run oil out because it could loosen the silicone. The point is getting the internals coated in the oil not saturated.

While breaking in a motor it is important to not let it run dry because the motor is too tight and the lack of lubricant can cause damage. Once broken in a properly tuned there will be no damage caused if you idle the tank dry.
