Default Buggy engines GRP, trinity/sirio, O.S., Novarossi, etc....

I race all electric classes currently and have an 8ight-E 2.0 and really enjoy it and i plan on getting into nitro. I am going to go with the 8ight 2.0 platform and i can't decide what motor to get. I like the GRP's but they have been discontinued so if i find one will I still be able to get parts etc...? I am looking at the Novarossi "toro nero" but i heard some people are having issues with them. I like the look of the V-spec .21(not the newest one that is $500). I am not really looking for a "budget engine" but I don't really want to get into anything over $500 by the time i factor in a good tuned pipe. I am open to ANY engine suggestions and if possible i would like to hear the pros and cons of each such as

How long will the engine last before i need to rebuild it?
Does the engine have a smooth power-band?
Is the engine extremely difficult to tune and/or start?
Does the engine manufacturer stand behind there product and have good customer service?
How is the fuel mileage?
and any other aspects of a nitro engine i should think about.

best regards,

christopher

No GRP - I would Strongly suggest an OS Vpec -- or Ninja JX . 21 series

How long will the engine last before i need to rebuild it? I have a VSPC that has about 15 gallons on it. It has been pinched once
Does the engine have a smooth power-band? YES with the OS pipe, I think its 2060 ? ? ?
Is the engine extremely difficult to tune and/or start? you can get them for around $280 and get at OS pipe with it. it is easy to tune
Does the engine manufacturer stand behind there product and have good customer service? they have some what of a warrenty (but ist a nitro engine so dont expect help) with nitro engines EVERY company stand hesitant becuase they dont know how you used it.
How is the fuel mileage? Fuel milage is good, I get 11min per tank - I pit at 9 mins.
and any other aspects of a nitro engine i should think about. i love my turbo plugs

I personally like the os speed it flat screams, and does circles around the others. The v-spec is a great little engine too. I like os engines thy tune easy and make great power. You will need an os 2060 pipe to open it up properly the mugen 2042 is the same pipe. That's my 2 cents.

Ninja JX21. All the power of a vspec with the coated crank of the speed.

+1 on the ninja it always pulls hard at the track. The speed just has the extra bling factor

Don't spend your money on a modded engine the first time out. You won't need it, nor will you be able to fully appreciate it.

The OS engines are some of the *easiest* to run and tune, but not the longest life units around.

I've heard no reports of issues with the current Novarossi engines.

Wouldn't use the Toro either; go with the +4 and a 9901 pipe for all around great performance. You can go somewhere over 8-gallons without issue. I've never actually worn one out, I usually get tired of them and swap engines before that happens.

Parts are SUPER easy to get for the OS lineup generally, just call Tower, but parts aren't hard to get for the Nova's either, just have to plan ahead a little bit. You really won't need anything for a loooong time unless you have a run away or something nasty happens.

I have had nova's, os and sirio all good but I really like the sirio cl7b it was super easy to break in and very easy to tune a little hard to fine parts but the new trinitys are sirio based so you can use there pipes Im running the 2013 great pipe good all around power.

I am a little confused about which OS .21 people are referring to. On tower I see 3 different V-spec .21's
The "pro modified"
The normal V-spec .21
The worlds edition

which one is everyone referring to?
What is the OS "speed"

I like the sound of the Ninja engine. It is a V-spec with a few upgrades right?

First of all AMAINHOBBIES is better.

dont get the Promod - if you are going OS, then run the -

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...n-Buggy-Engine

I know the Speed is good engine - but guys he wants a buget engine. I would strongly get the regular OS-Max-21VZ-B-V-Spec-T-P with a 2060 pipe or Losi make a pipe with the same specs as the 2060 for half the price. Never used it but its there

This is what they are refering to:
the OS Speed: http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...n-Buggy-Engine

correct about the Ninja - new piston and sleeve - OS .28 case and the speed rod = bad ass engine

I would get the NovaRossi Plus 21-4. It runs 10min +, and delivers awesome powerband.

And, more importantly, it is cheaper than the OS Vspec.

I brought the +4 when Adam Drake won silver state - it was a very disapointing engine. I went back to my Vspec. +4 is an on and off engine - Vspec is smooth

I have both the OS speed Vspec II and plus 21-4. The only comment I want to make is that the plus21-4 isn't far off in terms of "smoothness".
