Default ceramic bearings..

hey ive got a few questions about ceramic bearings. i know a buddy of mine that races said they were a good upgrade. i was looking at the ACER ceramic bearings. he was telling me that if you got them, you wouldnt need to change out your bearings for over 1 year. what performance do you get out of these bearings? smoother???

I did not like them in the clutch bell but they are great inside the engine.

i didnt like them, sure they might have been a bit smoother, but nothing outstanding

in nitro offroad bearings are disposable items IMO, none will last forever

the only way to get your money's worth with the ceramics is to take them out every time you clean your car and clean and re-oil them

i'd rather just spend $1 and replace one if it doesnt feel smooth

I found that they are smooth at first and I did like them BUT
for me ( I hate to clean bearings) I think they cost to much
the mantes is to much to keep them in good shape so for me
Avid bearing at $1ea is the way to go they get gritty or dirty
just toss the old ones put in new ones no mess no fuss

+1 on the $1 bearings. The only bearings I bother cleaning are the clutch bell bearings - you have to take the grease out of them anyway to get a consistent clutch. All the other bearings in the car are replaced as needed. I use to use the stock losi bearings and I find no difference with protek or avid $1 bearings. I couldn't imagine taking every bearing out in the drive train every time I cleaned the car and ran them through the bearing blaster, that would add hours to the maintenance process. For a few bucks, toss and replace.

I tried out the caliber tread this weekend with Cary and they worked very well when the track was packed and just slightly damp underneath, dry on top. As the track dried out they got a little loose but still better than what I usually run city blocks or i beams. I think proline has raised the bar again.

Another +1 to cheapo $1 bearings, and the fact that offroad bearings are disposable items. When they get gritty, toss em.
