Default Break-In Worries

Ok. I just got my new O.S. .21TM, and after spending yesterday prepping it I started break in today. Finished tank 1 recently. I planned on heat cycling it originally, but I was apparently running it ridiculously rich for that first tank and it was hard to get the temp above 150 degrees. Im thinking the high speed needle needs leaned out, but Im really nervous about this.

Im trying to break this engine right and take better care of it than I did my 3.3.

Anyone have any advice on how I should proceed?

Follow the break in procedures to the tee that are posted in the sticky at the top of the page. Wrap the cooling head so heat does not escape, and get yourself a heat gun..Monitor temps often and keep it at the proper temp with the gun. You can go leaner also, but just make sure its still rich

Ok heres the problem Im having. I started heat cycling it today. Waiting on it to cool right now. But even with a sock wrapped around the cooling head, its hard to get the temp to above 150. Im going to assume its cause its running very rich, but I dont think it should be leaned out while its being broke in, should it?

OK nevermind, think I got it down. i leaned it out a tad more, and its still pretty much dumping fuel out the back of the engine but I can get the temp up in the 200 degree area and keep it there. It seems weak as hell, but Im attributing that to the richness that its being run at. Gonna run it like this for a few more tanks I think, and then she should be good to go.

running it too rich and not up to temp can do more harm. you have a ways to go before you can consider it being too lean. read the break in bible and if it takes leaning it some to get the temps where they need to be then do it.

i had the same engine in my tmax. I had to lean it a half a turn just to get temp up. depending on weather the stock settings are just a ball park.
