What do I need to know about starter boxes?
Looking at finally getting rid of the pull starter and going to a starter box. What should I look for in a starter box? I have a Cen Matrix buggy with the rtr engine as of now. Planning on getting a new .21 at the end of the year. I need a more budget minded bow. Would a used one be alright or are these something that should be bought new? Thanks for the help.

Used might be alright but all your really need to know is how to align your car onto it so that the starter box wheel is touching the fly wheel. I'm not sure if the cen matrix rtr's engine mount will accomadate a starter box so you should check that out.

The engine mounts should work as there is currently spacers in there to allow room for the pull start. I guess what I'm mainly asking for is reccomendations and what is important in a starter box, motor size? is 2 motors needed? is a power panel worth getting?

I just have the losi universal box stock with 2 3300 nimh batteries and its fine.

As for reccommending a starter box, IMO the Ofna Truggy starter box is the best one out there currently (I have 2 of them). All the guys/gals that has this starter box will tell you the same thing. Has enough power to start new tight pinch engines without breaking a sweat.

While I agree that the blue OFNA truggy box is the best you asked for a budget minded box.
This one fits that bill. Comes with battery, power panel and cable, two 550 motors and is simple to set up.

That box is $85! he would be spending $5 less than the Ofna Truggy box
That's a budget?
IMO there is no better money spent than the $90 on the Blue truggy Box. If you are not buying that one, then get something to just get you started for around $50

Agreed. This is by far the best one on the market. A cheaper box is really not worth it.

90 bucks is NOT the final cost of this box all you get is the box and motors.......as I said the blue box is the best, but you still have to buy the battery and a glow ignitor. How much are 2 6-cell battery packs? And a glow ignitor? This box is complete for 85 and it's a good box. I have one, do you?

Sorry Bud, I didn't read were it said it included the battery and the glow ignitor..My bad, so the box itself is about $50, which is a good deal, my apologies, and no, I do not have one..I have the beast that doubles as a bench grinder
