the futaba sounds like a good deal with the discounts I get..
The Tower TS-170 or Hobbico CS-170 are excellent servos. I've ran the CS-170 for three years with no problem. If you insist on dropping a $100 plus on a servo, get the hitec. They have the best warranty in the business. At least five years with no questions asked or receipt. Hope this helps.

+1..I also think they have the best Servo's in the industry..BUT..only once you get into the $100 plus range..anything less than $75 is a crapshoot..The phrase "you get what you pay for" is actually true in most cases

Wow! I didn't even look that closely into it. Interesting discovery. Also I found this on Futaba's website.

I do not believe it's available yet, but check the specs. It's a stump puller!

    Let's compare...

    And this...

    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPHD6&P=7

Same speed, same torque, same case, same (cough!) quality. Case closed.

The price difference is the HiTec has an alloy servo horn included. My guess.

Try sending the Tower hobbies brand one back after 5 years of use...see what you get! You'll get one of these..Hitec will send you a brand new $120 servo That's worth the extra money to me..no receipt, no questions..Just a brand new servo!
  • Quote: Just took a peek at it. IMO, it looks like a re badged HiTec. For only 30 bux more, check this out. It also has an aluminum center case.

I was wondering if i ever ran into a problem with my 5955 if Hitec would send me a 7955 as a replacement? That would put me at ease not praying that my servo may fail.

I have sent back Discontinued servos and received the new model as a free replacement
  • I still say JR

BRASS VS TITANIUM........It really does not take a rocket scientist to figure it out....Brass gears are weak...and there's nothing to refute that with...the top cases are also weak......HITEC ALL the way.
  • Hitec 7955's are dialed. That is what I am using for throttle and steering in both my vehicles with a lipo no regulator.
  • questions

    - not sure what's the point of buying Hitec servos just to be able to use their warranty program when they break... why not buy servos that don't break instead?

Personnally I'd vouch for a previous gen sanwa ERG-V series (airtronics 943XX series I think in the US)... they can easily be found for <$80 these days and were top-of-the-line not so long ago. They'll be plenty enough for 99.9% of the rc "pilots".

  • Thats just it, hitecs are durable as can be. I know some people that have had the same servo for years and they just keep moving them from vehicle to vehicle. I have tried just about all the servos out there JR, Airtronics, Futaba, etc and the hitecs are my preferred choice. Futaba would be my next choice but I prefer the specs on 7955, a good balance of speed and torque.
