being completely new to the rc world, please forgive my ignorance I bought my son and I a new Traxxas Nitro rustler this weekend and tried about an hour or so to get it started with no luck. Ended up taking it to local hobby shop for assistance. He got it fired up and I was able to take it home and do the breakin procedure. Problem is, that I HAVE to throttle it with receiver to get it started each time, and if it sits idle for as little as 2 seconds it goes dead. Also, even when driving it if you brake for a sec, it goes dead. Im guessing it still needs some tuning any advice would be gratefull

If it's a new motor witch I assume it is, you will need to break it in, motors come from the factory set to run rich, if your not good at tuning, you might possibly be able to find someone at a local track or even ask the kid at the hobby stoer to breakit in for you, i would also read the tuning bible in the forum a it has alot of usefull info.

Personally traxxas only has a few good nitro's... witch are revo, t-maxx, revo platinum... iv had i rustler and a nitro spor, stapede and i have run into the same problem... they just dont hold a tune... they are a good beginner car cause you learn to tune cause you are constantly tuning them.... if you decide that you are into the sport try these brands for your next nitro rc.... Team associated, ofna, team losi, hpi....

well I think I have figured out that if I richen it too much the acceleration dramatically reduces and performance is not that great, so Im going to try to lean it some this afternoon. My biggest complaint is idleing, the car should continue to run while sitting idle, right? mine dies as soon as it stops, 1-2 seconds max, if Im lucky. Should I open the idle needle some? book says not to tweak the idle needle anymore than you need to, so Im a little nervous about that one. thanks
