Default DONT BUY A V-SPEC!!!!

Ive ran a few O.S. V-Spec's and finallt took the step to the big boy..the Worlds Edition. After 3/4 of a gallon and no good reason i got a crack on the mounting tab. After sending Great Planes emails and talking to them they will do NOTHING to help me. SCREW them and O.S. motors!! A few people in my area (Tampa) have had problems with the case recently and they wont even entertain the thought that it may have been a bad batch of cases. I offered to send the whole thing in and they still said they could do nothing for me. DONT BUY A V-SPEC OR EXPECT ANY HELP FROM GREAT PLANES!!!

The vspec have never had warrentys. A new case is 114. Send it to me if you don't want it. I will take it.

V-Spec = No warranty expressed or implied.

Not too hard to figure out, when you gamble, sometimes you lose.

When you bought yours ?. Heard the earlier batch has such problem but it has been solved with the later batch.

A decade ago when they made the V99(year 1999) that comes with a built-in boost bottle in the rear backplate, the bottle keeps popping out after a gallon run. It was also solved from the 2nd batch onwards.

Is there any warranty given for any other engine ?. That was unheard of over here.

Allot of other companies warrenty engines, its only for manufactures defects but if an engine blows right away it usually is a defect.

You were using a correct engine mount right? most broken os cases are from the motor mount breaking the case.

It sucks and its happened to a lot of people. The V-Spec case has always been on the fragile side.

I dont know any engine that comes with a warranty though.

Your best bet is probably to buy a case from a JX Ninja. That case seems to be a good bit tougher than the V-Spec case but I think internally they are similar.

There must be a million cases out there to swap. I am not a big Os fan but the Speed, Jx are solid motors. Last weekend I did see a friend break the crankpin while racing the new pro mod motor, second weekend on the motor. Anyone else seen that?

I just bought a new speed after over a year of faithful GRP. I hope I didnt make a mistake. I am 1/2 way through the heat cycle. 500 bucks is alot to drop for 3/4 of a gallon and then done. The carb inserts seem to be identical to the GRP though.

Default Speed

I really like my Speeds. The power and fuel mileage is good, and although it does cost a bit more than most motors I feel that you do normally get a quality motor. Sorry to hear about your problem though.

i have seen pro mod crank pin sheer off but was due to improper tuning by the guy who owned it also on the speed case issue just get a reg. vspec case its almost the same thing. works just fine speed is sweet power motor but imo does lack a little in the longevity department but that is just one mans opinion another mans will be different

I personally think OS uses the cheapest materials around. There parts quality, craftsmanship, and customer service do not warrant the prices of their engines..Now that being said, if you care to open and inspect your engine every gallon of fuel and replace the bearings, and the rod, and reseal it, then you will get a good engine, but that adds major $$$$ to the price of the engine.

I also had a bad experience with OS as my V-spec came from the factory with a cracked case. I sent it back with a note, as they could see it had not been run because I could not prime it..They sent it back with a note saying No WARRANTY!..That was my first and last OS product
