8t gears in a 8b?

8t gears in a 8b?
I think I herd this someware, and is there an advantage? Or am I just smoking crack?

well no they arent. The truggy gears are geared for the larger diameter tires. The truggy gears have a 43/10 ratio as the buggy gears have a 43/13 ratio. I have heard of people running truggy gears in buggy but I believe you have to use a smaller spur and or a bigger clutch bell to get the right gearing for a buggy. In theory this would reduce rotating weight(I think) and I believe I heard it makes the buggy snappier. I don't see the need for it as the losi is already one of the snappiest/quickest accellerating buggys out.

hmm..i knew or heard that but forgot..so is that the ring gear thats different 13&10?

the buggy runs a 43 tooth ring gear and a 13 tooth pinion gear with a 46 tooth spur and 13 tooth clutch bell. you can run the 10 thooth pinion in the buggy but you will have to run a 44 tooth spur with a 16 tooth clutch bell. or a 46t spur with a 14-16 tooth clutch bell this is all depending on the track you are running on. The benefits will be less rotating mass and better punch and a little smoother power transition. most of the new cars on the market run this gearing now. As for running the 13t pinion in the truggy you would have to run a 62t spur to get the gearing right. it wouldnt really help in any way. Hope this helps a little.

In the Losi 8 setup thread a guy named Tex1 discuss the advantage to do this setup quite deeply, as some one said before in order to have that advantage you need to use a 16T bell, which at that time (before the 2.0) you were forced to use a Ofna one, which also meant to change your clutch.
If I remember correctly with the announcement of the 2.0 a Losi 16T bell came out with the right spur, and you could change the gears from the truggy to the buggy.
The reason to do the change resides in the fact that cars like RC8, 808 and others are coming out with that relationship. It allows the engine to keep rotating before applying the torque to the wheels, so when you come out of the corners for one thing your engine is rev ed up already so when you apply the throttle it will be smoother coming out.
That is what I understood fo that discussion at that time, but you must take into consideration that the 2.0 is a different car and the new smart diffs are coming out also.

Either way 2 or 1.0 sounds like it could be worth a try

Actually the buggy and truggy run a 48t spur. And don't be confused, if you want to run the 10t pinion you have to use the truggy specific ring gear. Why, you say. well because the 10t pinion has a smaller overall diameter the ring gear has been adapted to mesh with it correctly. If you tried to run a 10t pinion with buggy ring gears it would not lign up properly.

I have been running it lately and Like it. 45 16 with black and green at the pit and 47 16 with green gold on the smaller tracks. My clutches have been lasting forever. Thanks to Billy Fischer for the testing on this.

The advantages are more bottom end on small technical tracks. At big open tracks, there isnt much advantage. The only reason we still run it at places like the Pit is so we dont have to change back and forth.
