The whole electric is easy mentality is wrong too.

You have to know how to calculate to make it work, specially 1/8th brushless.

I started into the R/C world pretty recently, and my first rig was a Traxxas Bandit. It was nifty, and I did like the fact that it was pretty much plug and play, so to speak. I havent experienced the joys and wonders of brushless motors or LiPo's yet but it was still alot of fun.

After that I went all out and bought myself a Baja 5B. Gas powered was awesome. It took alot more to get my engine to run and whatnot but it was worth every moment.

And my latest purchase was a Traxxas Slayer, just because I wanted to at least try a nitro car and see if it was really all as bad as some Baja drivers say it is. Its not. The sound and smell is awesome, yes its annoying to have to tune the engine and do all the before and after run maintenance (air filters and wd40 bleh!) but its worth the effort. When its finally running its awesome! All the more awesome because you got it to run so well to begin with!

They are both great. But I think Im a nitro/2stroke R/C guy now.

(....unless the nitro-fuel-is-hard-to-get-in-iraq situation forces me to do a electric conversion on my Slayer that is)

Well one isn't better than the other except for the owner. I'm a licensed electrician/automation specialist and yes electric definately has performance advantages but that being said I don't want my toys being electric after having to work with it all week. I also use to race 1:1 dirt track alcohol modifieds and the smell of nitro reminds me of those good memories. The nitro to me is more like real racing with pit stops, endurance (long mains). Would NASCAR, F1, Le Mans or any other racing be as fun to watch if all races were 10 laps? Some day I could see me having both as I use to run electric years ago and wanted a change. As I said before one is better than the other only when it comes down to the individual's circumstances.

I started out with all electric cars. I bought my first Nitro car awhile ago, and raced it saturday. And all the frustrations of breaking-in and tunning the car, melted away as I drove it. And nothing turns heads, like the sound nitro.
It may be my only nitro car, but I have way more fun driving it.

Oh, and believe it or not, cleaning it is way easier than cleaning my electric cars.

Well the one you mention are really boring to begin with.

other racing like CORR and WRC however would suck if they only drove 5 minutes.

But Drifting works well in the short runtime system it has.

What about drag racing? 10 seconds and done.

Nothing beats a nitro buggy/truggy when you have it tuned right. It's just a great feeling, instead of an electric that you don't really have to put in wrench time.

I've been thinking of getting an e 1/8 buggy, but will never get rid of my nitro stuff.

Wow another Nitro vs Electric debate. I enjoy and race both. I would have to say that I would rather run nitro but that may be because I only get to run nitro a few times a year. I race electric once or twice a week. Electric is much easier to run because you don't have to worry about finding help. With nitro you have to have a pit person. This is hard for me because I have to travel to run nitro.(I haven't quite convinced my wife to pit for me) The one thing I have noticed when running nitro is that people are more than willing to help you. Run what you like or race it all I do think that the 1/8 scale E cars should run in a separate class though.

I agree with you. I did not mean to say it is so easy and you have to do nothing if that is how it came across. It just is alot less frustrating as far as tuning goes. I am starting to see there is alot to electric just like Nitro. I never thought I would have to hook a laptop up to my cars LOL! I am starting to figure out all about changing your throttle curves, punch control braking settings etc. Alot to do also in electric. But like I said, WAY LESS FRUSTRATING then trying to tune a nitro when it is messing up and may have a bad plug or airleak.......

Having both electric and nitro cars,I have to say for me I like nitro the best because I actually LIKE to work on and clean my cars as much as drive them,I also like the strategy involved in a long gas main.Now electric also has a place in my heart,wintertime electric indoor racing alows me to get my R/C fix all year long.So for me anyway there is a place for both.

While my Clodbuster only needs a gearing change to be close in top speed to the nitro MT's around here, it completely destroys them in accel... When I can get traction
And it handles like a boat... But it's still fun to drive!

With my 2S 6500mAh packs, I can get around 40 minutes of runtime.

Not bad for a truck that's bigger than most Savage's

That being said, I still have more fun tinkering with my Kyosho STR, experimenting to make it run on alternative fuels
Gotta do something with the old 2.5 (not even a 2.5R!) until I can afford a real engine for the truggy

I keep hearing the "Nitro guys wrench all the time" what wrenching???? I've seen plenty of electric guys wrenching on there cars between rounds plus they break stuff too. Pure electric guys make it sound like we sit there tune, tune, tune or we are wrenching in the pit area all day which is soo untrue. Both classes are changing setups, maybe found something loose and etc in the pits. I see the pit tables the electric and nitro seem to have there tables full to support racing. To me sitting there switching batteries and changing them out is a pain in the arse.

I've have nitro cars for over 20 years tuning is easy. Dump the temp gun tune by sound, smoke and look at the glow plug that tells you the most what is going on in the engine.

Number 1 biggest thing is do the preventive maintenance at home you will have less issues at the track. Most just throw it in the closet forget about in tell next weekend because broke the last weekend. THIS goes for both nitro and electric.

Now I see 1/8 electric trying out clutch shoes or one way bearing setup

Im guesting that 90% of the rc community got into rc racing when they saw the smoke, smelled the fumes, and heard a roaring 2-stroke engine blast down the road. I believe nitro attracts people into the hobby, not electric. I currently have electric and nitro (different scales and different brands). Their both great in thier own right. They should all be in seperate classes though. E8th should have its own while nitro 8th has its own. They just cant compete with each other. Electric is way faster and the pit-stops would be different than nitro.

Here in the northwest, their starting to seperate the e8th's from the nitro 8ths!

Just the sound of a motor, the fumes, and the smoke make it so realistic!

I dont believe that nitro will ever go away

Plus if it did, The Nitro Challenge would have to change its name haha!!!!
